Little Falls, NJ – The University of Maine baseball team took down NJIT on Saturday night for their second-straight victory.
Black Bears Scoring Breakdown:
Chris Bear got Maine on the board in the fifth inning as he hit an RBI double down the left field line, scoring
Myles Sargent (BB).
Dean O'Neill tied the game up at 2-2 later on the in the frame as he hit a single to right center, scoring Bear (2B).
Payton Whitehead brought home two more runs in inning for Maine as he hit a two-run double to left field, scoring O'Neill (1B) and
Drew Reynolds (1B).
Evan Menzel capped off the five-run inning with an RBI single to right field, scoring Whitehead (2B).
Damon Gaither was called on to pinch hit in the eighth inning with a runner on first and he rewarded the decision with his first home run as a Black Bear, a no-doubt shot to left field.
Aidan Bardi (1B) scored on the two-run shot.
Black Bear Pitchers:
Caleb Leys turned in his best start of the season as he turned in 7 quality innings, allowing just 2 runs on 6 hits, 1 walk and striking out a career-best 12 batters on the night.
Tommy Martin took over on the mound in relief, but failed to record an out as he allowed 1 run on 1 hit and 2 walks.
Sebastian Holt was called in with runners on first and second and no one out as he stranded both runners on.
Holt (4) ended up wrapping up the game, allowing no runs on 2 hits, 1 walk and striking out 3 in his 2 innings of work.
NJIT Recap:
The Highlanders scored one run in the first, one in the third and one in the eighth.
