Sargent Drives in 7 Runs to Lead Black Bears to Conference Victory over NJIT

Fitzgerald threw first complete game of career on the mound

Little Falls, NJ – The University of Maine baseball team took down NJIT for their second conference win of the season on Friday Night.

Black Bears Scoring Breakdown:

Drew Reynolds got the Black Bears on the board with his fourth home run of the season, a three-run shot to right field in the top of the first frame. Chris Bear (HBP) and Brody Rasmussen (1B) scored on the play.

Myles Sargent hit the Black Bears second home run of the contest and second grand slam of the season as he cleared the bases in the third inning. His fifth home run of the season brought home Reynolds (BB), Payton Whitehead (BB) and Aidan Bardi (HBP).

Rasmussen brought home a run in the sixth for Maine as he hit a sac-fly to right field, scoring Sargent (2B).

Sargent brought home his fifth and sixth RBIs of the night in the seventh inning as he doubled to right field, scoring Reynolds (BB) and Jack Quigley (PR).

Sargent capped off his career-night as he single home his seventh run of the contest on a ball to right field, scoring Quigley (BB). Bardi scored on an E9 on the play.

Black Bear Pitchers:

Colin Fitzgerald (4-2) did it himself for the first time in his career on Friday night as he turned in a complete, nine-inning performance on the mound. He allowed 4 runs on 11 hits, no walks and a career-high 10 strikeouts.

NJIT Recap:

The Highlanders scored one run in the second, one in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the ninth.

Colin Kidd (0-1) took the loss on the mound.

Final Score: Maine – 12 | NJIT – 4

Maine (6-18, 2-2 AE) remains in Little Falls for game two of the weekend series on Saturday, March 29 against the Highlanders. First pitch is scheduled for 7:45 PM.
