Vestel, NY – The University of Maine baseball team picked up a win in their conference opener over Binghamton on Friday afternoon.
Black Bears Scoring Breakdown:
Dean O'Neill got the Black Bears on the board first as he hit a sac-fly to right field, scoring
Brody Rasmussen (1B) on the play.
Myles Sargent plated a pair of runs in the second frame as he singled to right field, scoring both
Evan Menzel (1B) and
Aidan Bardi (BB) on the play.
O'Neill continued swinging a strong bat at the plate as he hit his fourth home run of the season and third in the last four games. His solo shot in the third inning was hit on a line out right field.
Aidan Bardi brought home a run in the sixth on a groundout to first, scoring
Quinn Murphy (BB).
Black Bear Pitchers:
Colin Fitzgerald (3-2) turned in his third quality start of the season in his sixth start as he went 7 innings on the mound, allowing just 2 runs on 6 hits, 2 walks and striking out 4.
Tommy Martin was called on in the eighth inning as he allowed 1 hit and struck 2 batters in the frame.
Sebastian Holt (3) took the mound in the ninth for the save. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts.
Binghamton Recap:
Binghamton scored two runs in the third.
Ryan Packard (1-1) took the loss on the mound.
