Queens, NY – The University of Maine baseball team fell in 16 innings at St. John's on Friday.
Black Bears Scoring Breakdown:
Will Burns got Maine on the board first as he hit an RBI single to shortstop, scoring
Brody Rasmussen (BB - SBx2) on the play.
Maine added a pair of runs in the sixth inning on back-to-back plays as Rasmussen singled home
Quinn Murphy (BB) before
Chris Bear (1B) scored on a wild pitch.
Rasmussen added another RBI to his outing on a sac-fly in the eighth frame to score Bear (1B), ultimately sending the contest to extra innings.
Maine struck first in extra innings as Bear hit his second home run of the season, this one being a solo shot to left field.
Black Bear Pitchers:
Maine used a combination of four pitchers to battle into the 16th frame on Friday evening, starting off with another solid outing from
Colin Fitzgerald. He turned in 7 innings of work, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.
Tommy Martin got the Black Bears to extra inning as he threw 2 perfect frames of relief, striking out 3 batters.
Sebastian Holt was the first pitcher used in extra innings as he allowed 1 run on 2 hits and 1 walk in his 2 innings of work.
Jason Libby (0-2) ended up taking the loss on the mound as he allowed a two-run home run in the 16th inning. He went 4 innings, allowing 3 hits and striking out 4.

St. John's scored one run in the fourth, one in the sixth, two in the seventh, one in the 10th and 2 in the 16th.
Tyler Longoria (1-0) picked up the win in relief.
