Caroline Dotsey registered a team-high 14 points as the University of Maine women's basketball team dropped a 56-40 decision at home to UAlbany on Thursday evening.
The loss snapped Maine's 19-game home conference win streak and slipped the Black Bears back to 12-14 overall, 7-6 in America East play. The Great Danes improve to 21-5, 11-2 in league action.
Dotsey posted her 13th double-digit scoring performance of the season while adding six rebounds as she finished the evening 6-of-11 from the floor.
Caroline Bornemann added seven points and eight rebounds.
Maine shot 14-of-45 (31.1) from the floor with five triples while hitting 7-of-8 from the free throw stripe. UAlbany, which shot 23-of-52 (44.2), controlled the boards with a 32-28 margin while forcing 20 Maine turnovers.
An early 10-3 run by the Black Bears gave the hosts their largest lead late in the first quarter. Trailing by one,
Sarah Talon began the sprint with two free throws before a Dotsey bucket and a triple from
Olivia Rockwood put Maine up five. After a layup by the Great Danes, Dotsey dialed up a three to give Maine its largest lead of the ballgame, 12-6.
UAlbany answered with a 14-0 run spanning the end of the first quarter and into the second to build an eight point lead, 20-12.
Rockwood ended the scoring drought with a triple to draw Maine back within five.
The game entered the half with Maine trailing 26-21.
Asta Blauenfeldt opened the second half scoring with a deep jumper, closing the gap to just three.
However, UAlbany went on to outscore Maine 9-2 to end the third and take a double-digit lead, 35-25, into the fourth.
The Black Bears were unable to draw any closer than eight the rest of the way as the Great Danes captured the road victory by a final of 56-40.
Maine returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 22 when it hosts Binghamton at 1 p.m. Prior to the game, fans are invited to take part in the National Girls and Women in Sports Celebration and Interactive Fair held inside the New Balance Field House.
