Preview: Maine wraps up regular season with home series against Holy Cross, Senior Night Saturday

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team is set to host the Holy Cross Crusaders for the final series of the regular season on Feb. 21/22 at Alfond Arena. Game times are set for 6:00 pm and 5:00 pm. respectively. The final series will determine where the Black Bears will be seeded for the Hockey East Conference Tournament. Right now, Maine sits in sixth place.

Saturday is 'Senior Night' as our six seniors will be honored immediately after the game. Our seniors include Courtney Colarullo, Jamie Grinder, Adriana van de Leest, Mira Seregély, Alyssa Wruble and Elise Morphy.

Black Bears Last Time Out: More Notes on Maine:
  • Nine different Black Bears earned at least one point this weekend.
  • Maine went 2-for-2 on the penalty kill over the weekend. 
  • Kendall Sundby was named Defender of the Week for her multi-point weekend.
Previous Matchups with Holy Cross:
  • The overall series is 13-4-3 in favor of the Black Bears. 
  • Maine fell to Holy Cross earlier this month in overtime 1-0.
  • Last season, Maine beat Holy Cross in all three games faced.
Scouting the Crusaders (10-18-3, 6-16-3 HE):
  • Holy Cross comes out of the last weekend with six points after sweeping Vermont, by scores of 1-0 and 3-1.
  • Holy Cross is in ninth place in Hockey East, close behind Vermont by one point.
  • The Crusaders lead the conference in blocked shots with 379 total.
  • Emily Crovo leads the team with goals (6), assists (10), points (16) and powerplay goals (3).
  • Goaltender Abby Hornung leads the team with a 1.78 goals-against average and .942 save percentage. Hornung has played in 23 games this season.
Looking Ahead & Playoff Structure:
  • As mentioned above, the final series will determine where the Black Bears will be seeded for the Hockey East Conference Tournament. Right now, Maine sits in sixth place.
  • Seeds seven and eight will host seeds 10 and nine, respectively, in the Opening Round on Wednesday, February 26. The top six seeds will receive a bye into the Quarterfinals, scheduled for Friday, February 28 and Saturday, March 1. Following a reseeding, the top two seeds will host the winners of the Opening Round, while the third seed will host the sixty seed and the fourth seed will host the fifth seed.
  • The Semifinals will be held on Wednesday, March 5, at the sites of the higher seeds.
  • UConn will host the 2025 Hockey East Women's Championship Game on Saturday, March 8, at 12:00 p.m. The title game will once again be broadcast live nationally on ESPNU.
