CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts – The University of Maine men's track and field program opened their season in Cambridge, competing in the Harvard Classic on Saturday December 6.
Adam Bendetson got the afternoon started for the Black Bears with a 5th place finish in the 5000m event. Bendetson finished the season opening event with a time of 14:55.76. Logan Ross finished 6th overall with a time of 14:59.21. Kyle McClellan finished in 8th place with a time of 15:21.04. Jack Burns rounded out the Black Bears in the top 10 with a 9th place overall finish. Burns finished with a time of 15:21.91. Tim Collins finished 13th overall in his first collegiate indoor track event with a time of 15:42.70. Myles Quirion rounded out the Black Bear field with a 14th overall finish with a time of 15:48.41.
Ryker Brown took home a 1st place finish in the Weight Throw event with a distance of 17.75m (58' 3"). Gavin McGarrity started his season with a 3rd place finish with a distance of 16.53m (54' 2.75").
Eli Palmer was the lone Black Bear in the men's Mile event. Palmer finished in 5th place with a time of 4:23.62.
Maine dominated the 400m as all three Black Bear athletes that competed finished in the top 5, including two top 3 finishes. Andrew Card started his season off strong with a 1st place finish, finishing with a time of 48.69. Miles Gay took home a 2nd place finish with a time of 49.29. Spencer Stadnicki finished 5th overall with a time of 50.95.
Ryan Fernstrom finished his first collegiate 500m event in 7th place with a time of 1:06.03.
Billy Albertson took home a 3rd place finish in the Long Jump event with a distance of 6.88m (22' 7"). Will Rush finished 4th overall with a distance of 6.87m (22' 6.5"). Conor Morin finished in 6th place with a distance of 6.81m (22' 4.25"). Andrew Abelon rounded out Maine's competitors and the top 7 with a 7th place finish with a distance of 6.77m (22' 2.5").
Thomas McCormack finished the Pole Vault event in 7th place with a height of 4.45m (14' 7.25").
Ryker Paradis opened up his collegiate career with a 2nd place finish in the Shot Put event. Paradis finished the event with a distance of 16.52m (54' 2.5"). Ryker Brown finished in 3rd place with a distance of 16.23m (53' 3"). Luke Patterson finished 14th overall with a distance of 10.98m (36' 0.25"). Ben Therriault rounded out the field in 15th place with a distance of 10.93m (25' 10.5").
Nolan Feyler finished the 200m in 5th place with a time of 22.40. Josh Sewell finished 10th overall with a time of 22.83. Max Shapiro rounded out the Black Bear field with a 16th place finish in his collegiate debut, finishing with a time of 23.20.
Conor Morin took home a 2nd place finish in the Triple Jump with a distance of 14.86m (48' 9"). Will Rush rounded out the top 3 with a distance of 14.27m (46' 10").
Maine would send out two relay teams for the 4x400 event. Myles Hang, Ben Caldwell, AJ Sebastien and Max Shapiro finished in 4th place with a time of 3:26.41. Josh Sewell, Ryan Fernstrom, Luke Patterson and Ben Therriault finished in 5th place with a time of 3:42.20.
The Black Bears return to action on December 12th as they host the Eagles of Husson University at the New Balance Indoor Track.
