Black Bears blank Lions in non-conference action

Justin Poirier had three points while Albin Boija posted a 28-save shutout.

ORONO, Maine – Behind a three-point night from Justin Poirier and a 28-save shutout from Albin Boija, the #15/18 University of Maine men's ice hockey team topped Lindenwood, 5-0, on Saturday night at a sold-out Alfond Arena.

Charlie Russell opened the scoring for Maine 4:16 into the contest and then Sully Scholle made it 2-0 less than three minutes later. Scholle's goal was the first of three straight power-play goals for Maine, with Poirier scoring one with a minute to play in the second period and adding his second five minutes into the third period. Just 31 second after Poirier had made it 4-0, Lukas Peterson capped the scoring with his first career goal.
