Men's hockey adds Alex Kurtz as Director of Player Development

Kurtz enters his first season with the Black Bears in 2026-27.
Kurtz brings more than 10 years of player development experience to the Black Bears. He spent the last five years as the owner and operator of Alex Kurtz Hockey, working with players at all levels on individual skill development, hockey intelligence and overall performance. Most recently, Kurtz served as an assistant coach at Bowdoin College during the 2025-26 season. Prior to Bowdoin, he spent two seasons as an assistant coach and director of player development at Wentworth Institute of Technology.
Kurtz's coaching and player development experience also includes roles with Stride Envy Hockey, where he worked as a player development and video analysis coach, and Casco Bay Youth Hockey, where he served as Player Development Director.
A Yarmouth, Maine native, Kurtz played junior hockey with the New England Wolves of the Eastern Hockey League before playing one season at the University of Southern Maine. He earned his bachelor's degree in Media Studies with a minor in Athletic Coaching from the University of Southern Maine in 2018.
