Smith notches triple-double in win over Saint Francis

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Adrianna Smith tallied Maine's first triple-double since 2015 as the Black Bears earned a 69-46 win over Saint Francis to close out the Turkey Tip-Off on Saturday afternoon.

Smith finished her day with 19 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists for Maine's first triple-double since Liz Wood accomplished the feat in 2015. Smith added four blocks to her historic performance. Smith led four Black Bears in double-figures with Kaliyah Sain adding 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting while Asta Blauenfeldt and Sarah Talon each tallied 10. For Blauenfeldt, the scoring mark stretched her double-figure scoring streak to 12-straight.

The Black Bears finished with one of their best shooting performances of the year, hitting 28-of-56 from the floor and 8-of-11 from the free throw stripe.

Maine concluded the first quarter on a 9-0 run to carry an 18-12 edge into the second and led 31-23 at the half.

The Black Bears came out of the half on fire, outscoring Saint Francis 22-12 in the third quarter to create a comfortable lead heading into the fourth.

In the third, Sain opened the scoring with the first two buckets of the quarter to lift Maine's lead to 12. A 7-0 run by the Black Bears, keyed by a triple from Olivia Alvarez, stretched Maine's lead to 15 midway through the quarter.

Another 7-0 run, the one coming late in the third, pushed Maine's lead to 20 with 38-seconds remaining in the third.

Maine staged an 8-0 run, guided by back-to-back buckets from Lizzy Gruber, early in the fourth to take its largest lead of the game at 65-38.

The Black Bears cruised down the stretch, securing their second victory of the season by a final of 69-46.

Maine returns to action back home on Monday night when it hosts Boston University at 6 p.m. live on NESN.
