Washington, D.C. – The University of Maine basketball team came up short in their comeback against Longwood on Saturday afternoon as they fell, 65-61.

A back-and-forth battle took place throughout the opening half as neither side solidified more than a five-point lead in the first half until just under four minutes remaining in the first half when Longwood got out to a seven-point advantage.

The Black Bears trailed 29-22 at halftime.

Caleb Crawford was 3-for-3 from the field off the bench as he had a team-high six points.

Logan Carey had four points, three assists, three steals and two rebounds.

Maine forced ten turnovers in the first half.
Â
The Black Bears erased the deficit early in the second half as they opened up with a 14-6 run by
Mekhi Gray (8pts) and
Ryan Mabrey (6pts).

After being tied at 41-41, Longwood went on an 8-0 run to make it 49-41 with just over nine minutes to go in the contest.

The Black Bears responded by scoring the next four points and continued to keep the game within six points deep into the half.

Maine went on a late run to cut the deficit down to just one point on multiple occasions with under two minutes left, but were unable to complete the comeback as Longwood picked up the victory, 65-61

Notes:
- Gray had his best performance as a Black Bear as he had a game-high 16 points and three three-pointers.
- Carey had 13 points, six rebounds, three assists and four steals on the day.
- Mabrey had 12 points.
- The Black Bears forced 19 turnovers on the afternoon.
