LOWELL, Massachusetts – The University of Maine field hockey program defeated the UMass Lowell Riverhawks in the first round of the America East Field Hockey tournament on Sunday afternoon by a score of 4-3.
Eloise Penty got the Black Bears on the board with her 8th goal of the season after converting her 6th penalty stroke in the 4th minute to put Maine up 1-0.
Saylor Kuefler's 6th goal of the season would extend the Maine lead to 2-0 in the 8th minute on the doorstep after getting behind the defense.
Madison Leeper would score in the 12th minute for UMass Lowell to pull the Riverhawks within one.
After a scoreless 2nd quarter, Madison Leeper would score her second goal of the contest in the 31st minute to tie the game at two goals a piece.
Nicole Kowalewski would give Maine a 3-2 lead in the 32nd minute off of a penalty corner for her 4th goal of the season.
Brynn Dzengelewski's 3rd goal of the season would give Maine an insurance goal in the 44th minute to give Maine a 4-3 lead.
Karlijn Kerkhof would score in the 45th minute off of a penalty corner to cut the Maine lead to 4-3.
