Orono, Maine -- The CAA Conference announced on Monday morning that both
Christian Thomas and
Rashawn Marshall of the Maine football program were named the Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
Thomas, a graduate student out of Norristown, Pa., continued his strong season with another big performance on Saturday in the 35-14 victory over Elon. He registered nine tackles, five of which were solo tackles, to go along with 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack. He also recovered a fumble, his first takeaway of the season. His 76 tackles on the season are the third-most in all of the CAA and 15th in the FCS.
Marshall, a redshirt freshmen out of Newark, N.J., was entered into the starting lineup against Elon due to injuries, and he took full advantage of the opportunity as he rattled off 141 rushing yards on just 15 carries (9.4 YPC) along with two catches for 18 yards. His biggest play of the afternoon came in the fourth quarter as he broke free for a 61-yard touchdown, his longest play of his career and his second touchdown of the season. It was the second-straight game for Marshall with at least 140 rushing yards.
