ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine field hockey team scored six unanswered goals to earn its first America East victory of the season with a 6-1 victory over visiting Bryant on Friday afternoon.
Taylor Katsube posted a pair of goals to lead five different Maine goal scorers while Rozárie Mrázová earned her second win of the season in the cage.
After Bryant jumped out to a 1-0 lead, Maine tied the score when
Saylor Kuefler broke out on a rush before sending a pass deep into the Bryant zone. The pass was collected by
Emily Chisholm who beat the Bryant keeper for her first career goal.
Working off the penalty corner just under six minutes later,
Brynn Dzengelewski inserted to Kuefler who settled before sliding the ball to
Nicole Kowalewski who rifled a shot into the back of the cage. Kowalewski's goal put Maine on top and would prove to be the game-winner.
Katsube tacked on her first goal of the afternoon by flipping a rebound up and over the keeper to put Maine on top, 3-1.
After
Eloise Penty converted a penalty stroke at 50:12, Katsube would find the back of the cage once again with her second goal coming just over a minute after Penty's tally.
Zoe Furber closed out the scoring at 55:46 with her team-leading sixth goal of the season.
The Black Bears, who outshot Bryant 21-1, held a 10-4 edge in penalty corners.
Maine goes for the weekend sweep on Saturday when it hosts Boston University at 2 p.m. on Senior Day in Orono.
