Preview: Field Hockey returns home for Senior Weekend

Black Bears host Bryant on Friday at 3, Boston University Saturday at 2

ORONO, Maine -- Following a five-game road trip, the University of Maine field hockey team returns home for a two-game homestand beginning on Friday when the Black Bears play host to America East foe Bryant at 3 p.m. On Saturday, Maine will honor its six seniors prior to taking on Boston University at 2 p.m.

ABOUT MAINE:
  • The Black Bears are coming off a 4-2 loss in the Buffalo Wild Wings Border Battle at UNH last weekend and are looking to snap a six game losing skid.
  • Maine is 3-3 at home this season and have won three of its last four outings at the Maine Field Hockey Complex.
  • Olivia Geniti and Zoe Furber lead Maine, each with five goals. Geniti (five goals, two assists) and Eloise Penty (four goals, four assists) are tied atop Maine's point leaders with 12.
  • Rozárie Mrázová has made seven or more saves four times this season, including double-digit save totals against both Indiana and Brown. She currently leads the America East in save percentage (0.766), ranks second in saves per game (5.9), and third in goals against average (2.19).
  • The Black Bears are second in the conference at 7.25 penalty corners per outing and second in goals against average (1.96).
ABOUT BRYANT:
  • Bryant enters the weekend at 3-9 and 0-2 in America East play. The Bulldogs, currently winless on the road (0-3), recently snapped a nine-game losing streak with a 1-0 win over Merrimack on Oct. 12.
  • Callie Caito leads Bryant's offense with six goals and an assist for 13 points. Megan Smith is adding three goals, including two game-winners, and a helper for seven points. 
  • In the cage, Maud van Lierop has made eight starts while registering a 1-6 record with a 2.35 goals against average and a 0.694 save percentage. Sara DeSousa has appeared in four games and enters the weekend 2-2 with a 0.706 save percentage and a 1.43 goals against mark.
ABOUT BOSTON UNIVERSITY:
  • Boston University, stuck in a two-game losing skid, start the weekend 5-7 with a 2-2 mark in Patriot League play. The Terriers will be playing their fourth America East opponent and stand at 1-2 against the America East. Boston University lost 3-2 in overtime to Vermont, defeated Bryant 3-0, and most recently dropped a 7-6 contest to New Hampshire.
  • Caroline O'Brien guides the Terrier offense with 10 goals and six assists for 26 points. O'Brien's 2.17 points per game and 0.83 goals per game are both tops among Patriot League leaders. Nicole Lauro is chipping in five goals for 10 points.
  • After Abbey Chun made two early season starts in the cage, Sophie Ortyl has made the last 10 while compiling a 5-5 mark with a 0.633 save percentage and a 2.91 goals against average. 
  • The Terriers lead the Patriot League at 7.25 penalty corners per game.
