Catamounts edge Black Bears in conference action

The Catamounts scored in the 52nd minute for a 1-0 win.

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women's soccer team fell to Vermont, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon in America East action at the New Balance Soccer Complex.

After a scoreless first half, the Catamounts took a 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute when Madelin Gardner sent a shot in from 20 yards out.
 
Maine kept pushing for the equalizer, out-shooting the Catamounts, but the final attempt dropped at the goal line with the final buzzer.
 
NOTES
  • Maine had the 16-14 lead in shots … Vermont had a 6-5 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Catamounts had a 5-3 lead in corner kicks.
  • Elena Barenberg made five saves to move to 1-3-1 on the year.
  • Maine is now 14-15-6 in the all-time series with Vermont.
