ORONO, Maine --
Caroline Dotsey registered a game-high 20 points as the Black Bears earned their third consecutive victory with a convincing 74-44 decision over UMass Lowell on Thursday evening at Skip Chappelle Court.
The win moved Maine to 5-2 in league play, 10-10 overall while the River Hawks dropped to 2-16 and 0-6 in league play.
Dotsey, who has now posted double-digits in four of her last five outings, finished the night 8-of-10 from the floor with four triples for 20 points. Bornemann added 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting to go along with five rebounds while
Paula Gallego packed the stat sheet with 12 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
Asta Blauenfeldt rounded out four double-figure scorers with 10 points.
Maine again posted a strong shooting performance, finishing 30-of-51 (58.8) with nine triples including a strong 8-of-12 showing in the third quarter.
The Black Bears also dominated the glass, outrebounding UMass Lowell 38-20 while limiting the River Hawks to just 21-of-54 (38.9) from the floor, 0-6 from three point range.
Maine, which led by five after one quarter, created some distance in the second when it outscored the River Hawks 23-9 over the 10-minute quarter span.
Leading by eight with 4:58 left in the first half, the Black Bears staged a 13-0 run to open the game up. Back-to-back triples from Gallego pushed Maine's edge out to 17. A bucket from Dotsey and a pair of free throws by Bornemann extended Maine's lead to 21.
The Black Bears would carry a 42-23 lead into the break.
A 14-2 Maine run to start the third built a 31 point cushion for the Black Bears. Dotsey's bucket grew the lead to 26 before a steal from Bornemann led to a bucket from the forward on the opposite end.
Jaycie Christopher's triple with 4:15 left in the third grew Maine's lead to 56-25.
With the lead at 30 midway through the fourth, a 6-0 run gave Maine it's largest lead of the contest. Two buckets from Bornemann started the run before
Izzy Allen knocked down her first career bucket to push the lead out to 36.
Maine cruised down the stretch to secure the 74-44 victory.
The Black Bears are back in action on Jan. 30 when they travel to take on New Hampshire in the Buffalo Wild Wings Border Battle at 6 p.m.
