Orono, ME - The University of Maine field hockey defeated Hofstra in their home opener on Friday afternoon, 3-1.
Poppy Lambert got the scoring going as she scored her first goal of the season on a penalty stroke.
Maine carried the late first half momentum into the second half as
Victoria Tinghitella scored her second goal of the season on a deflected pass on the penalty corner. Lambert (2) and
Alexandra Sacker (2) picked up the assists.
Sacker got in the scoring column herself as she fired home a shot from the top of the circle on a penalty corner. Tinghitella (1) and
Olivia Geniti (3) picked up the assists on the goal.
Hofstra scored a late goal in the fourth quarter to make it a 3-1 final score.
Rozárie Mrázová picked up six saves in net as she moved to 3-0 on the season.
Maine (3-1) continues their homestand on Sunday, Sept. 8 as they host Central Michigan University. That game is scheduled to begin at 1 P.M.
