Field Hockey Moves to 1-0 in Conference Play with 3-1 Victory over Vermont

Orono, ME - The University of Maine field hockey program picked up their first America East Conference victory of the season on Friday afternoon with a 3-1 win over Vermont.

Goal One: Alexandra Sacker got the Black Bears going early with a penalty corner goal that she fired past the Vermont goalkeeper. Victoria Tinghitell (4) and Eloise Penty (1) picked up the assists on the score. The goal was Sacker's third of the season.

Goal Two: Olivia Geniti made it 2-0 Black Bears in the opening quarter as she received a great pass from Kate Richardson (3) that she promptly fired into the lower right corner of the net. The gol was Geniti's team-leading fifth score of the season, giving her 14 points on the season.

Goal Three: Poppy Lambert made it three-straight games with a goal and four total on the season as she scored early in the second quarter to make it 3-0 Black Bears. Her penalty corner score came off of a set by Tinghitella (5) and a feed from Eloise Penty (2).

Vermont score their lone goal of the game in the 48' minute to make it 3-1.

Notes on the Game:
  • Rozárie Mrázová 3-1. continued her strong start to the season as she moved to 7-2 in net for the Black Bears on the back of a career-high 12 saves against Vermont.
  • Lambert picked up her first defensive save of the game as she denied a open net attempt from Vermont in the second half of the contest.
  • Maine made it four-straight games with all of their goals being scored by a different player in a contest.
  • Shots were 17-10 and penalty corners were 9-7, both in favor of Vermont.
  • Maine (7-3) is off to their best 10-game start since the 2018 season (8-2).
Next up for the Black Bears: Maine travels to Fairfield on Sunday, Sept. 29 as they face off against the former America East opponent at Noon. The Black Bears are 19-2-1 all-time against Fairfield as they have won their last nine games in a row against them.
