Preview: Field Hockey Opens Conference Play on Friday against Vermont

Maine will travel to Fairfield on Sunday for non-conference action

Orono, ME - The University of Maine field hockey program will begin America East Conference play on Friday, Sept. 27 against Vermont before returning to non-conference action on Sunday at Fairfield.

Look at the Black Bears:
  • Maine opens up America East Conference play with a 6-3 record, including back-to-back shutouts in their last two games. The last time Maine shutout two different opponents in back-to-back contests was Sept. 30 and Oct. 2 against UMass Lowell (1-0) and Merrimack (13-0).

  • Rozárie Mrázová has been strong in net for the Black Bears as she boasts a 1.36 GAA and a .783 save%. She has started in net for all three shutouts that the Black Bears have recorded on the season.
  • Josette Babineau won her 200th career game on Saturday, Sept. 21, making her one of only 50 active head coaches in the NCAA (all Divisions) with at least 200 career victories.

Preview of Vermont:
  • 2-5 record overall, 1-0 in America East action.
  • Coming off of a 1-1 weekend. They defeated UC Davis (3-2 OT) in their America East opener and fell to #8 Harvard (4-1).
  • Marie Dijkstra was named the America East Rookie of the Week as she scored two goals against UC Davis, including the game-winning goal in overtime.
  • Vermont is allowing 2.57 GPG while only scoring 1.29 per contest.

Black Bears vs Vermont:
  • Maine is 35-12-1 all-time against their America East rival in Vermont, including 15 of their last 18.
  • Vermont picked up the win against Maine last season by a score of 2-1.
  • Saylor Kuefler scored the lone goal in the third quarter for Maine in the contest.

Preview of Fairfield:
  • 2-4 record overall, 0-0 in the NEC (Conference opener is on Friday against Rider)
  • Fairfield is 1-1 against the America East on the season, which includes a 2-1 victory over UNH in their last game on Sept. 20.
