Black Bears Top Minutewomen in Overtime

Zoe Furber scored in overtime to give Maine a 2-1 win.

EVANSTON, Ill. – Zoe Furber scored eight minutes, seven seconds into overtime as the University of Maine field hockey team topped UMass, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at Lakeside Field.
 
The Black Bears took a 1-0 lead just over three minutes into the neutral-site contest on Saylor Kuefler's first goal of the season. The Minutewomen responded six minutes later to even up the score at 1-1.
 
Neither team scored in the second quarter and Maine finished the first half with a 6-5 edge in shots and a 4-3 edge in shots on goal.
 
The third and fourth quarters saw the Minutewomen pressure the Black Bears but the Maine defense and Rozarie Mrázová held strong, turning away two corner attempts and making two saves to force overtime.
 
In the first overtime, Micaela Grajales fed Furber to give Maine its first win of the season.
 
Jayde Temby made two saves in the first quarter while Mrázová made four saves over her 53 minutes of action.

UMass finished with a 15-8 lead in shots while shots on goal were tied at six each. The Minutewomen had six corners to Maine's one.
