Black Bears Earn Split at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – The University of Maine softball team earned a split at Holy Cross on Thursday afternoon at Freshman Field.
 
After Holy Cross walked off game one, 4-3, the Black Bears clawed back from an 8-0 deficit in game two for an 11-10 victory.

How it Happened
  • Maine took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Rylee Kent singled home Caitlyn Fallon.
  • Holy Cross responded with two runs in the bottom of the second.
  • The Black Bears went back on top in the third when Katie Jo Moery knocked a two-run single to left center.
  • The 3-2 score would hold until the bottom of the seventh when Holy Cross got the first two runners on and then scored both on a triple down the right field line.
Game Notes
  • Caitlyn Fallon went 2-for-3 for her fifth multi-hit game of the season.
  • Kennedy Burns, Krista Francia, Katie Jo Moery and Rylee Kent all notched a hit for the Black Bears.
  • Moery had two RBI for her fifth multi-RBI game of the year.
  • Francia extended her reached base streak to five games while Fallon and Kennedy Priest extended their streaks to four games.
  • Isabelle True started, going 3.0 innings while giving up two runs on four hits with four walks … Alysen Rieth went 3.0 innings in relief, allowing two runs on five hits with one walk.

  • Holy Cross raced out to a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the first and then made it 8-0 in the second.
  • The Black Bears then erupted for eight runs in the top of the third … Maine loaded the bases on two walks and an Anna Margetis single and then made it 8-1 when Krista Francia earned a walk … Katie Jo Moery reached on an error and pushed two runs across before Gabby Papushka drove in a pair with a single to make it 8-5 … Caitlyn Fallon reached on a double and Nora Campo drove a three-run, game-tying home run to left center.
  • Holy Cross responded with two runs in the bottom of the third to retake a 10-8 lead.
  • Papushka led off the fifth with a single and then back-to-back walks set the plate for Kyli Hernandez to single home a run … Madison Hand then had a pinch-hit sacrifice fly to tie things up, 10-10 … Margetis had an RBI single to center to put Maine up, 11-10.
