Black Bears Drop Doubleheader at Binghamton

VESTAL, N.Y. – The University of Maine softball team dropped both ends of a double header to Binghamton on Monday afternoon at the Bearcats Softball Complex.

How it Happened
  • After two scoreless first frames, the Black Bears manufactured three runs in the top of the third … Kyli Hernandez bunted Keira Inman home and then Hernandez and Kenedee Giddens came around on a Katie Jo Moery double.  
  • The Bearcats responded with seven runs in the bottom of the third and added two more in the fourth.
  • The Black Bears threatened in the fifth – with Moery singling to left and stealing second – but couldn't cross the plate.
  • Maine scored two runs in the top of the sixth … Caitlyn Fallon hit a home run and Inman scored on a Gidden's single.
  • Binghamton again responded, pushing three runs across on the back of an error in the sixth and limited Maine to one base runner in the top of the seventh.
Game Notes
  • The Black Bears recorded seven hits including three players with multi-hit games.
  • Katie Jo Moery went 2-for-4 for her fifth multi-hit game of the season and added two RBI.
  • Caitlyn Fallon's home run was her first of the season … she went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
  • Keira Inman was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a double for her first career multi-hit game.
  • Isabelle True started, going 2.1 innings while giving up six runs on five hits and three walks … Alysen Rieth threw 3.2 innings in relief, giving up six runs – four earned – on seven hits and three walks … both pitchers had one strikeout.

How it Happened
  • Kaly Thomas held the Bearcats hitless through three innings before bunt single and a home run made it 2-0 Binghamton … the Bearcats added one run before the third out of the fourth to make 3-0 after four.
  • After a scoreless fifth and sixth, Katie Jo Moery led off the top of the seventh with her second double of the day but the Black Bears were unable to bring her home.

  • The Black Bears will return home to host UMBC in the final regular season home series of the season on April 20 and 21 at the UMaine Softball Complex.
  • Maine and UMBC will play a doubleheader beginning at noon on Saturday, April 20 and a single game beginning at 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 21 … Saturday will be Senior Day.
