Baseball Gets Walked Off in the Ninth at UMass Lowell

Lowell, MA - The University of Maine baseball team was defeated by a walk-off hit in the ninth inning, 11-10.

First Pitch: 1 P.M. (11-10 UMass Lowell)

First Inning: UMass Lowell plated four runs in the opening frame.

Second Inning: Jeremiah Jenkins got three runs back for Maine as he cleared the bases with a double to right field, scoring Myles Sargent (1B), Dean O'Neill (HBP) and Will Burns (BB).

Fourth Inning: The Black Bears broke through in a big way in the fourth inning as they scored seven runs in the frame to take a 10-4 lead.

Will Burns knotted the game up at 4-4 as he singled to left field, scoring O'Neill (1B) to start off the frame.

Jenkins picked up his fourth RBI of the day on a double to right field, scoring Colin Plante (1B).

The biggest blow of the inning came off the bat of Nick White as for the second-straight day he hit a home run to right field, this one being good for three runs. Burns (1B) and Jenkins (2B) scored on the play.

Maine added two more runs on singles by O'Neill and Plante as they scored Jack Friend (E6) and Sargent (1B), respectively.

UMass Lowell got three runs back in the bottom of the frame, making it a 10-8 contest.

Sixth Inning: Ryan Scott was called on in relief with one out and runners on first and third in the sixth inning. Jason Krieger allowed 8 runs on 12 hits, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts across 5 and â…“ innings of work.

Seventh Inning: Lowell scored one unearned run in the frame to make it 10-9.

Ninth Inning: Lowell tied the contest up at 10-10 in the bottom of the ninth with a single to left field and walked it off with a single to right field.

Marshall Smaracko was called on in relief of Scott. Scott allowed 2 runs (1 earned) across 3 and â…“ innings. He allowed 3 hits, 2 walks and struck out 1.

Smaracko allowed 1 hit and 1 walk in his appearance.

Maine (8-21, 4-6 AE) looks to take the weekend series victory over UMass Lowell in the series finale on Sunday, Apr. 14. First pitch is scheduled for Noon.
