ORONO, Maine – The UAlbany Great Danes spoiled the University of Maine softball team's home opening day, taking both games of an America East doubleheader at the UMaine Softball Complex on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
- The Great Danes took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second but he Black Bears responded with a three-run bottom half of the frame ... Gabby Papushka led off with a double and then Maine pieced together three runs on an error and RBIs from Keira Inman and Kenedee Giddens.
- Papushka then gave Maine a 4-3 lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the third.
- UAlbany equalized at 4-4, scoring on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth … the visitors then used a pair of RBI singles in the top of the seventh to make it a 6-4 final.
- Gabby Papushka went 2-for-3 with a double one run scored and one RBI … it was her second multi-hit game of the season.
- Kyli Hernandez, Krista Francia and Kenedee Giddens also tallied hits for the Black Bears.
- Kennedy Priest reached twice on walks and scored one run … in addition to Priest and Papushka, Francia and Rylee Kent all scored for Maine.
- Caitlyn Fallon started, going 4.0 innings while giving up three runs – two earned – on six hits with three walks and one strikeout … Isabelle True threw 3.0 innings, giving up three runs on two hits.

How it Happened
- UAlbany went up 2-0 in the top of the first on a two-RBI single … Kyli Hernandez singled to lead off the Maine at-bat in the bottom of the first but got doubled off.
- The Great Danes then made it 3-0 in the top of the second and added two more in the fourth and one in the sixth.
- The Black Bears got two runners on with no outs in the bottom of the seventh but stranded both.
- Alysen Rieth started, going 3.1 innings while giving up five runs on six hits … Kaly Thomas allowed one run on three hits in 3.2 innings of work … both Rieth and Thomas recorded three strikeouts.
- Kyli Hernandez went 1-for-2 at the plate.
- Gabby Papushka reached base twice for the Black Bears on an error and a fielder's choice
- Maine turned two double plays in the game.
