Tampa, FL - The University of Maine baseball team was defeated by USF in seven innings on Wednesday night, 16-6.
First Pitch: 6 P.M. (16-6 USF)
Second Inning: Owen Wheeler began the inning on the mound in a bullpen day for Maine. Jason Kreiger allowed no one on base with 1 strikeout in his inning of work.
USF plated four runs in the frame, one of which was unearned.
Third Inning: Maine responded to the four-run frame with a four-run inning of their own. The first two runs of the inning came into score on a fielder's choice and throwing error, Dean O'Neill (BB) and Jeph Hadson-Taylor (1B) scored.Â
Jake Marquez hit an RBI single through the left side to bring home the third run, scoring Nick White (FC). Connor Goodman capped off the inning with a sac-fly to right field, scoring Marquez (1B).
Geoff Mosseau made his season debut on the mound to begin the third frame. Wheeler allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 1 hit and 3 walks in his 1 inning of work.
Fourth Inning: Ryan Scott began the fourth inning on the mound for Maine. Mosseau allowed no runs on 1 hit and 1 strikeout in his inning of work.
USF scored one run in the frame to take the lead back at 5-4.
Fifth Inning: Zach Martin tied the contest back up as he hit an RBI single to center field, scoring Marquez (BB). Dean O'Neill put Maine back in front with an RBI to left field, scoring Jeremiah Jenkins (1B).
Tyler Nielsen began the fifth inning on the mound for the Black Bears. Scott allowed 1 run on 1 hit, 3 walks and 1 strikeout across his inning of work.
USF retook the lead as they plated four runs in the frame.
Sixth Inning: Colton Carson began the sixth inning on the mound for Maine. Nielsen allowed 4 runs on 4 hits, 1 walk and 1 strikeout across his inning of work.
Seventh Inning: Noah Lewis began the frame on the mound for Maine. Carson allowed just 1 hit in his shutout inning of work.
USF plated seven runs in the frame to bring out the mercy rule as they defeated Maine, 16-6. Lewis allowed 7 runs (6 earned) on 3 hits and 6 walks.
Maine (2-11) is back in action on Friday, Mar. 15 for a weekend series against FAU. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 P.M.
