Orono, ME - The University of Maine men's basketball team was defeated by Vermont on Saturday afternoon, 68-57.
Vermont jumped out to an early double-digit lead at 15-3 before the Black Bears came roaring back to take the lead at 28-25 on an extended 25-10 run.
Vermont was able to retake a slim lead and bring it into halftime at 36-29.
Jaden Clayton led the Black Bears in scoring with seven points.
Quion Burns (6) and
Kellen Tynes (5) rounded out the top-three scorers in the opening half. Tynes added a team-high five rebounds in the first half.
Vermont moved back in front by double-digits midway through the second half before Maine trimmed the deficit back down to five points, but that was as close as they could get in the contest.
Vermont came away with the victory, 68-57.
Tynes ended with a team-high 17 points and six rebounds.
Clayton (13) and Burns (9) rounded out the top scorers for Maine.
Maine (11-15, 3-8) remains at home as they host UMBC on Thursday, Feb. 22. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 P.M.
