ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team battled hard to push the #15 UConn Huskies into the overtime period, but fell 4-3 on Saturday at Alfond Arena.
Senior forward
Adriana van de Leest led the Black Bears with a goal and two assists.
Kendall Sundby had two assists on the night, while goaltenderÂ
Kiia Lahtinen backstopped Maine with 30 saves.
After a scoreless first period, Maine rallied behind two powerplay goals in the second period to take the lead.
Adriana van de Leest scored first, with
Kendall Sundby and
Brenna Curl earning assists. A few minutes later,
Frederikke Foss notched her first career goal assisted by
Adriana van de Leest and
Kendall Sundby. The Huskies were able to tie up the game before the period ended, one goal coming from a power play opportunity.Â
The third period was a back and forth battle, as UConn found the back of the net first.
Lily Fetch tied up the game on a play from
Alyssa Wruble and
Adriana van de Leest to send the game to overtime.Â
UConn was able to notch the game-winner 38 seconds into overtime as they had a 4-on-3 player advantage, from a Maine penalty called at the end of the third period.

Maine will head to Portland, Maine to host Merrimack College at the Cross Insurance Arena on Dec. 14 to round out the first half. Game time is set for 6:00 pm.
