Espitia elevated to associate head coach for track & field

ORONO, Maine – University of Maine head track & field coach Adam Ward has announced the promotion of Pablo Espitia to associate head coach.

"I'm incredibly grateful for this opportunity and new chapter as associate head coach for the men's and women's track and field team here at the University of Maine," says Espitia. "In my short time here, I have been able to help grow and develop the team and see the potential that it has. knowing that we are in the process of building our new outdoor facility and with Coach Ward's leadership and the support of our staff and administration we can do even better things in the future."

Since joining the Black Bears in January of 2023, Espitia has mentored the Black Bears to five school records, 29 individual top-10 marks, an individual conference championship and several podium finishes across at both the America East and New England Championships.

"Coach P (Pablo) has come in and made a huge impact on this program in such a short time," says Ward. "His dedication, loyalty, and resourcefulness are attributes we also look for and hope to instill in our student athletes. This promotion is a small token of the trust, faith and friendship we have developed. He has elevated the entire sprints and jumps squad into one of the best in our conference and region."

Espitia joined the Black Bears after two separate stints on staff at FIU where he served as an assistant coach from August 2017 through June 2018 and again from the 2020 season until joining Maine.

While at FIU, Espitia planned and executed the daily practices for the sprint and hurdle events while assisting with jumps, multis, and throws.
