Preview: Maine prepares to host #13 Boston College at Alfond Arena

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team (2-8-0, 2-4-0 HEA) readies to host the #13 ranked Boston College Eagles (6-3-0, 3-1-0 HEA) for a Hockey East series at Alfond Arena on Nov. 8/9.

Puck drop between the Black Bears and the Eagles is set for 6:00 p.m. on both days. Both games will stream on ESPN+, with an international stream available via Hockey East/Stretch Internet.

BLACK BEARS' LAST TIME OUT:

  • Maine most recently split the weekend series with Vermont, as the teams remain tied for 5th place in Hockey East's standings. 
  • Maine dominated game one against the 'Cats, winning 5-1 and outshooting them 40-17. Game two ended in a 2-1 loss for the Black Bears, despite them scoring first, just 24 seconds into the game.
  • Five different goal scorers in Friday's win included: Lily Fetch, Kendall Sundby, Ava Stevenson, Raegan Wurm, Lila Shea
  • Lily Fetch and Ava Stevenson led the team with 3-point weekends (1g, 2a)
  • Lila Shea (1g,1a) and Sam Morrison  (2a) had two points apiece
  • Elise Morphy, Stephanie Jacob, Mira Seregély, and Mikayla Boarder each tallied 1 point.
  • Kiia Lahtinen made 41 saves between the two games, as she recorded her first career win in goal on Friday.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES (6-3-0, 3-1-0 HEA):

  • #13 Boston College is currently on a five-game winning streak. The team is fourth in Hockey East's standings.
  • The Eagles swept the #5 ranked Clarkson for a huge weekend upset to gain momentum, and most recently defeated Merrimack 7-3. Sammy Taber had a four-point game against Merrimack as she leads the team with 11 points (4g, 7a)
  • Gaby Roy and Julia Pellerin also have four goals this season.
  • Goaltender Grace Campbell has started in seven of nine games, as she holds a goals-against average of 3.08 and a .883 save percentage.

LOOKING AHEAD:

  • Maine hits the road next weekend to play Northeastern for two games at Matthews Arena in Boston.
  • After that, Maine travels to Vermont for a single game on Nov. 24. 
  • To round out November, the Black Bears will host #1 Wisconsin for a non-conference matchup at Alfond Arena. Maine has not faced Wisconsin since 2003, back when Head Coach Molly Engstrom played for Wisconsin.
