Dotsey, Bornemann lead strong offensive effort in win at Stonehill

Black Bears post highest scoring output since 2022

EASTON, Mass. -- Caroline Dotsey posted a career-high 26 points while Caroline Bornemann chipped in her fourth double-double of the season as the Black Bears defeated Stonehill 87-75 on Tuesday evening.

Maine posted a season-high 14 triples, 10 in the first half, in the win as it registered its highest scoring output since an 88 point effort on Dec. 11, 2022.

Dotsey led the Black Bears, shooting 8-of-14 from the floor with a career-best five triples, with her game-high 26 point effort. Bornemann added 21 points and 12 rebounds while Sera Hodgson added 12 points with a trio of triples.

The Black Bears finished at 47.0 percent from the floor (31-of-66), 35.9 (14-of-39) from three, to lead the impressive offensive effort.

Maine found itself trailing by four after one quarter as Stonehill came out hot hitting 10-of-15 in the first quarter.

The Black Bears were able to flip the script in the second quarter as they went 10-of-15, outscoring the Skyhawks 24-13 in the period.

Maine, trailing by five with 8:21 left in the first half, received triples from Hodgson and Dotsey to take a one point lead, 32-31.

Stonehill battled back, regaining a one point edge, before Maine ended the half on a 16-5 run. Six consecutive points from Bornemann stretched the Maine lead to nine before Stonehill hit two free throws to draw within seven. Dotsey's triple at the horn sent Maine into the break with a 10 point advantage, 50-40. Dotsey's triple was Maine's sixth of the quarter and 10th of the game.

Maine's lead would hover around 10 throughout the third before five-straight points from Sarah Talon stretched the lead to 13.

The Black Bears would remain on top, 67-58, entering the final quarter.

Stonehill registered the first four points of the final quarter to pull within five with just over nine minutes to play in regulation before trimming the deficit to just three with 5:15 on the clock.

A 5-0 run from Dotsey, starting with a bucket in the paint before a triple off a turnover, elevated the lead back to eight.

The lead would not dip below six again as Maine closed out the contest on a 9-3 run to secure the victory, 87-75.

Maine returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 1 when it travels to take on Indiana at 2 p.m.
