Orono, ME - The University of Maine women's basketball program was defeated by Quinnipiac in a close contest on Sunday afternoon in Orono, 61-53.
Quinnipiac came out in the first half and took a game-high 14-point lead before the Black Bears trimmed the deficit down to nine heading into halftime as they scored the final five points of the first half to make it 36-27.
Jaycie Christopher had a team-high nine points in the opening half on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting from the field, all of which were three-pointers.
Caroline Dotsey had 8 points on 3-for-5 shooting from the field while
Caroline Bornemann had six points and six rebounds.
Maine came out in the second half and slowly chipped away at the deficit as they got it all the way down to two-points multiple times in the fourth quarter before Quinnipiac iced the game with free throws down the stretch.
Christopher ended with 13 points, three rebounds and a block while Bornemann had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Sarah Talon finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Maine (2-4) head to Stonehill for their next matchup on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 P.M.
