Orono, ME – The University of Maine men's basketball team defeated the Great Danes of UAlbany on Thursday night, 81-73.

Maine jumped out to an early 8-2 lead behind six points from
Peter Filipovity before UAlbany answered with a 12-2 run heading towards the second media timeout of the first half.

The rest of the first half was a seesaw of a battle as neither side gained much of an advantage over the other. Maine came out on top in the first half as they carried a four-point lead into the break at 38-34.

Kristians Feierbergs was the story of the first half as he had 14 points, including a perfect four-for-four from three-point range.

Jaden Clayton had six points, four assists and three steals in the first half while Filipovity and
Kellen Tynes both finished with eight points.

Maine came out of the break and took a commanding lead as they pushed their advantage up to 18 points by the midway point of the second half.

UAlbany responded with an extended run of their own to cut the deficit down to three points with 3:13 remaining before the Black Bears iced the run and hit their free throws down the stretch to come away with the victory, 81-73.

Filipovity finished with his second-straight double-double for the Black Bears as he had 23 points and 11 rebounds. He has recorded 20 or more points in back-to-back games.

Feierbergs finished with 16 points, five rebounds and four assists. Tynes and Clayton combined for a solid night in the Maine backcourt as they had 25 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds and six steals between them.

Maine (10-10, 2-3 AE) has rattled off two-straight America East victories and they look to continue their recent win streak with another home matchup on Saturday against Binghamton. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 P.M. at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
