Orono, ME – The University of Maine field hockey program defeated the Bobcats of Ohio on Sunday afternoon, 5-3.
Maine got out to a fast start as they scored four first half goals to take a 4-1 lead into the half.
Tereza Holubcova got the scoring going with her first goal of the season on a corner chance for the Black Bears.
Mallory Mackesy continued her goal-scoring streak as she scored her fourth goal of the season, her fourth-straight game with a score, before adding on her second of the half three minutes later.
Saylor Kuefler capped off the first half scoring for Maine with her second goal of the season, a redirected pass from Mackesy.
Katelyn Whittle scored late in the second quarter for Ohio.
Pauline Hartlieb got the scoring going in the second half for Ohio.
Holubcova joined Mackesy with a a mutli-goal game as she netted her second of the game in the fourth quarter for the Black Bears.
Meela Koop capped off the scoring with Ohio's third of the game.
Mallory Drayer (2-1) picked up the win for Maine in the first half of action as she made one save in her 30 minutes of game time.
Maine (2-2) welcomes Northwestern and UMass to Orono for their next weekend action. The game against Northwestern is scheduled to begin at 2 P.M. on Friday, Sep. 8.
