Orono, ME - The University of Maine field hockey team won its America East Opener against UC Davis on Friday afternoon, 2-0.
Following a stalemate for the first 50 minutes of the contest, the Black Bears got on the board first at 50:01 following a goal by
Mallory Mackesy. Her seventh of the season came off of a great set up by
Tereza Holubcova (3) and a pass between the goalkeepers legs by
Saylor Kuefler (2).
Mackesy wasn't done scoring as she for the second time in the fourth quarter found the back of the net. Holubcova (4) picked up her second assist of the game as she set up Mackesy for her second goal of the game and eighth of the year.
Mallory Drayer turned away the lone shot she faced in the contest as she picked up her first collegiate shutout in the win.
Maine (3-4, 1-0 AE) remains at home as they take on Stanford on Sunday, Sep. 17. That game is scheduled to begin at noon.
