Orono, ME - The University of Maine field hockey team was defeated by #20 UMass on Sunday afternoon, 3-2.
Emilie Keij and Hannah De Gast scored the opening two goals of the contest for UMass.
Mallory Mackesy got the Black Bears on the board at 24:21 with her sixth score of the season. Her score was set up by a takeaway from Madiysn Hartley (2) and a pass from
Tereza Holubcova (3).
Mali Herberhold scored to begin the second half for UMass.
Poppy Lambert got the Black Bears back to within one score as she netted her second goal of the season on a penalty stroke.
Jayde Temby picked up two saves on three shots faced in the second half of the contest.
Mallory Drayer (2-3) took the loss for the Black Bears in net.
Maine (2-4) remains in Orono as they are set to begin America East Conference play on Friday, Sep. 15 against UC Davis. That game is scheduled to begin at 3 P.M.
