Orono, Maine -- Several former members of the University of Maine women's basketball program competed at the National Senior Basketball Games in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The National Senior Basketball Games, held July 7-17, feature women from all over the country who come together to compete against each other in a collection of age groups ranging from 50+ to 80+. Games consist of a 3-on-3 half court setup with a pair of 15 minutes halves.
Maine women's basketball was represented on two of the games at the event. Maine 207 competed in the 55+ age group in the Division I playoff and finished the tournament 7-0 to capture the gold medal. Former Black Bears Cathy Iaconeta ('90), Debbie Duff ('88), Kelly LaFountain ('89), Beth Sullivan Harrington ('90),and Chrissy Iaconeta ('89) were featured on the 55+ team which went undefeated in pool play, defeating teams from Tennessee, Michigan, Illinois, and California.0) and Chrissy Iaconeta (class of  89) went undefeated in pool play defeating teams from Tennessee, Michigan, Illinois and California before earning the gold by winning 3 more games.Â
Maine Fusion took part in the 65+ age group and finished pool play 2-2 before winning three more games to earn the bronze medal in the Division II playoff. Black Bears Deb Smith ('76) and Lana Ladd Merchant ('80) competed for the Fusion.
