ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine softball team will begin the 2023 America East tournament this Wednesday against the University at Albany Great Danes in Baltimore, Maryland. First pitch at UMBC is scheduled for 1:30 pm.

Under the watch of second year head coach
Jordan Fitzpatrick, The Black Bears saw 12 players return from the 2022 roster, while welcoming eight newcomers for the 2023 postseason run. The new faces are made up of six freshmen and two transfers.

Kelby Drews earned America East Player of the Week honors after finishing the first week of the season with a .462 batting average, six hits, and two runs over the first week of the 2023 season. The graduate student now owns a .386 average with 27 hits, five doubles, one home run, and nine RBI after her first 27 games of the season. She has been walked or hit by a pitch 12 times. The senior recorded a walk-off single in the Black Bears' first game at the new softball complex.

Grace McGouldrick is the other Black Bear with a batting average north of the .300 mark (.338). The graduate student has logged a .417 on base percentage, 45 hits, 26 runs, 17 walks, and 33 stolen bases over her 133 at bats. McGouldrick set the UMaine single season program record for stolen bases by topping the previous mark of 30.

Krista Francia, and
Katie Jo Moery are all just shy of the .300 mark. The three have combined to tally one home run, score 41 runs, record 80 hits, and drive in 33 runners.

Immy Gie, and
Nora Campo have supplied the power for the Black Bears. Three of the newest Black Bears have each launched a home run while combining to drive in 29 runners.

Caitlyn Fallon has earned six wins, one save, and fanned 65 over the regular season. The senior has logged 104.2 innings while pitching three complete games over her 30 appearances.
Alysen Rieth has six five games over her 14 regular season starts. The freshman has 68 strikeouts, a 3.87 ERA, and five complete games through her first 108.2 collegiate innings.
