BALTIMORE -- The University of Maine softball team was defeated by the UAlbany Great Danes, 7-3, in game one, while defeating Bryant University, 11-1, and advancing to day number two on Wednesday afternoon at the Diamond at UMBC.
Game One - University of Maine: 3 University at Albany: 7
After a runner stole second and third, the Great Danes singled home the first run of the day. It was the only run of the inning as
Caitlyn Fallon worked out of the jam. Maine trailed 1-0 after the first.
UAlbany turned two singles, two doubles, two ground outs, and a Maine error into four runs in the bottom of the second inning.
The Great Danes added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Two singles and two doubles were enough for two more runs. After four innings, Maine trailed 7-0.
With
Katie Jo Moery standing on first,
Krista Francia ripped a double into the gap. Moery came around to score on the two-bagger. Francia touched home after
Immy Gie grounded out.
Jasmine Gray drove home
Grace McGouldrick in the top of the seventh but it was not enough as Maine dropped the first game of the day, 7-3.

Game Two - University of Maine: 11 Bryant University: 1
In the top of the first inning,
Katie Jo Moery drove in an early run to give the Black Bears a 1-0 lead. Bryant loaded the bases with no outs and was able to score only one run. After the first inning, the playoff contest was tied 1-1.
Katie Jo Moery lifted a fly ball to right field that was dropped by the Bulldogs.
Mariah Pearson and
Kyrah Haba-Dailey came around to score on the error.
Kelby Drews followed the error with a double. After three innings, Maine held a 4-1 lead.
The Black Bears scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Jasmine Gray launched a two-run home run before
Krista Francia drove home
Katie Jo Moery with a single. The lead was 7-1 after five complete.
Maine posted four more runs in the top of the sixth inning. Two of the runs were score on an error, before Francia drove in two more runs. They were the final runs of the day as Maine won, 11-1.

Next: The Black Bears will continue their playoff run tomorrow, Thursday, March 11 at 4:00 pm. The opponent will be determined tomorrow in Baltimore.
