Softball Falls in Both Ends of Doubleheader Against Binghamton

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine softball team was defeated by the Binghamton University Bearcats, 3-1 and 4-1, in both ends of the doubleheader.
 
Game One: University of Maine - 1 Binghamton University - 3
 
The Bearcats scored an unearned run on a dropped fly ball in the top of the first inning. Caitlyn Fallon was able to get out of the jam with a strikeout. After the first inning, the Black Bears trailed 1-0.
 
With runners on second and third, Immy Gie lined a single to center field. Jasmine Gray, who reached earlier on a double, came around the score. After two innings in Orono, the game was tied 1-1.
 
Binghamton snagged a one run lead in the top half of the sixth inning. After a triple, the Bearcats lined an RBI single to left field. At the end of six, the Black Bear trailed 2-1.
 
The visitors added another run on an error in their final ups. It was the final run of the first game as Maine fell, 3-1.
 
Notes:
  • Caitlyn Fallon (6-13) went the distance.She allowed one earned run and struck out six.
  • Immy Gie drove in the lone run.
Game Two: University of Maine - 1 Binghamton University - 4

A triple and a double equaled one run in the top of the first for the Bearcats. They scored first in game number two, which was the case in the first contest. After the first six outs, the Black Bears were looking at a one run deficit.

Grace McGouldrick tied the America East battle at one run apiece with a solo shot in the bottom of the third inning. It was the first home run of the season for McGouldrick.

Binghamton posted three runs in the top of the seventh inning. A double and three singles spelled trouble for the Black Bears. They were the final runs of the day as they defeated UMaine, 4-1.

Notes: Next: The two squads will return to the diamond tomorrow, April 30 for the series finale. First pitch at the new UMaine Softball Complex is scheduled for 11:00 am.
