ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine softball team was defeated by the Binghamton University Bearcats, 5-3, on a wet UMaine Softball Complex.
After
Grace McGouldrick stole second and third,
Kelby Drews singled to right. McGouldrick tied the UMaine single season stolen base record and then gave the Black Bears a 1-0 lead.
Binghamton manufactured a run on walks and hits in the top of the second inning. After two innings in Orono, the America East contest was tied 1-1.
The visitors took the lead in the top of the third with two runs on a handful of walks and a double. At the end of three, Maine trailed 3-1.
The Bearcats added a run in the top of the fourth and fifth inning. The advantage for the visitors had grown to four.
The Black Bears were able to put together two runs on a ground out and a sacrifice fly. Maine only trailed by two runs after the fifth inning. They were the final runs of the day as Maine fell, 5-3.

Next: The Black Bears will return to the diamond Friday, May 5 for the final regular season series of 2023. First pitch at the new UMaine Softball Complex against Bryant is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
