Baseball Loses First Home Contest of the Season, 8-4

Orono, ME – The University of Maine baseball team was defeated on Tuesday night by Merrimack, 8-4.
 
Fourth Inning: Myles Sargent got the Black Bears on the board in the fourth inning as he hit a double to left field, scoring Jake Marquez (HBP) on the play.
 
Jake Rainess brought home the second run of the inning for the Black Bears as he hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Myles Sargent (2B).
 
Fifth Inning: George Athanasiadis tied the contest up in the fifth inning as he singled home a pair of runs to make it a 2-2 game.
 
Sixth Inning: Luc Lavigueur began the sixth inning on the mound for the Black Bears. Tyler Nielsen allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts across his 5 innings of work.
 
Michael Dragon began the sixth inning on the mound for Merrimack. Zach Broderick went 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits, 4 walks and striking out 4.
 
Dylan McNary put the Black Bears back in front in the sixth inning as he hit his ninth home run of the season, this one being a solo home run to left field.
 
Eighth Inning: Colton Carson began the eighth inning on the mound for the Black Bears. Luc Lavigueur went 2 innings, allowing no runs on no hits, no walks and striking out 2.
 
Chris Goode brought home the game-tying run in the eighth inning on a single to left field.

Merrimack plated their first three runs in the ninth inning on a fielder's choice and two throwing errors by the Black Bears.
 
Samuel Sherman capped off the five-run inning for the Warriors as he singled home a pair of runs.
 
Jeff Mejia scored one run in the ninth inning on a wild pitch.
