Orono, ME – The University of Maine baseball team defeated the Hartford Hawks on Saturday afternoon, 2-1.
 
First Inning: Jake Rainess got the Black Bears going for the second-straight day as he hit a leadoff home run to left field, his 11^th of the season.
 
Second Inning: Matt McElwain kept the Black Bears going as he hit his second home run of the season, this one to left field.
 
Seventh Inning: Gianni Gambardella came on in relief of Caleb Leys to begin the seventh inning. Leys allowed no runs on 4 hits, 3 walks and 11 strikeouts in his 6 innings of work.
 
Joe Dooley was called on in relief to begin the seventh inning for Robert Chaney. Chaney allowed 2 runs across 6 innings of work. He allowed 7 hits, 1 walk and struck out 3.
 
Ninth Inning: Harrison Engstrom hit a solo home run for the Hawks in ninth inning, making it a 2-1 game.
 
Maine came away with the victory, 2-1.
 
Caleb Leys (3-0) picked up the win for Maine.
 
Gianni Gambardella (1) picked up his first collegiate save as he went 3 innings of relief, allowing 1 run on 1 hit, no walks and striking out 1.
 
Robert Chaney (0-5) took the loss for Hartford.
 
Maine (20-12, 11-1 AE) wraps up the weekend series against the Hawks on Sunday, Apr. 23. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 P.M. at Mahaney Diamond.
