ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine softball team was defeated by UMass Lowell, 5-4, at the new UMaine Softball Complex.

The Black Bears scored the first runs of the game in the bottom of the second inning.
Anna Margetis and
Izzy Nieblas, who both reached earlier in the inning, came around to score on
Krista Francia's triple. It was the first three bagger of the freshman's career. At the end of two innings, Maine held a 2-0 lead.

Anna Margetis continued to pace the Bears at the plate. This time the clean-up hitter lined a single that allowed
Grace McGouldrick to score from second. At the end of three, the Black Bears led by three.

Francia added another RBI in the bottom of the sixth inning. The third RBI of the day came on a single up the middle.
Kyrah Haba-Dailey came around to score on the base knock.

UMass Lowell waited until their final at bats to put some runs on the scoreboard. The River Hawks posted five runs in the top half of the seventh inning. A three-run home run and two singles were enough for the five runs. They were the final runs of the day as Maine fell, 5-4.
