ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine softball team will continue America East play this weekend against the University of Massachusetts Lowell River Hawks. First pitch at the new UMaine Softball Complex is scheduled for 12:00 pm on Saturday.

Under the watch of second year head coach
Jordan Fitzpatrick, The Black Bears will see 12 players return from the 2022 roster, while welcoming eight newcomers for the 2023 season. The new faces are made up of six freshmen and two transfers.

Kelby Drews earned America East Player of the Week honors after finishing the first week of the season with a .462 batting average, six hits, and two runs over the first week of the 2023 season. The graduate student now owns a .375 average with 15 hits, two doubles, one home run, and six RBI after her first 15 games of the season. She has been walked or hit by a pitch seven times. The senior recorded a walk-off single in the Black Bears' first game at the new softball complex.

Grace McGouldrick is the other Black Bear with a batting average north of the .300 mark (.359). The graduate student has logged a .443 on base percentage, 33 hits, 18 runs, 13 walks, and 24 stolen bases over her 92 at bats.

Izzy Nieblas and
Katie Jo Moery are both just shy of the .300 mark. The two have combined to tally one home run, score 17 runs, record 33 hits, and drive in 17 runners.

Anna Margetis and
Nora Campo have supplied the power for the Black Bears. Two of the newest Black Bears have each launched a home run while combining to drive in 15 runners.

Caitlyn Fallon has earned five wins, one save, and fanned 45 over the short season. The senior has logged 68.2 innings while pitching two complete games over her 21 appearances.
Alysen Rieth has won four games over her first nine starts. The freshman has 40 strikeouts and three complete games through her first 70.2 collegiate innings.
