Maine Baseball Takes Both Games in Home Opening Doubleheader Against UMass Lowell

Maine Took Game One 9-3 and Game Two 9-8

Orono, ME – Maine took down the River Hawks of UMass Lowell in both games of the Friday doubleheader.

--- Game One ---
 
Second Inning: Jake Rainess got the scoring going for the Black Bears as he drew a bases loaded walk, scoring Colin Plante (1B).
 
Quinn McDaniel singled home a pair of runs on the following at bat, scoring Myles Sargent (1B) and Dylan McNary (HBP).
 
Jeremiah Jenkins doubled home a pair of runs to make it three-straight run scoring at bats for the Black Bears, scoring Jake Rainess (BB) and Quinn McDaniel (1B).
 
Maine made it a six-run inning as Jenkins scored on an error by the shortstop.
 
Fifth Inning: Dylan McNary got the three-run fifth inning going for the Black Bears as he tripled to right center, scoring Ryan Turenne (BB).
 
Brian Foley was called on in relief of Matt Draper in the fifth inning. Draper allowed 8 runs (7 earned) on 9 hits, 3 walks, 1 hit batter and striking out 2.
 
Foley failed to record an out as he allowed 1 run on 1 hit and 2 walks. Shane Bogli was called on in relief.
 
Seventh Inning: UMass Lowell plated three runs in the final frame, only one of which was earned.
 
Maine picked up the victory, 9-3 in game one of the doubleheader.
 
Colin Fitzgerald (1-0) picked up the win as he allowed 3 runs (1 earned) across 6 and 1/3 innings of work. He allowed 4 hits, 2 walks and struck out 4 batters.
 
Matt Draper (1-4) took the loss for the River Hawks.
 
Colton Carson wrapped up the game in the seventh inning for Maine, allowing 1 hit and striking out a pair of batters.

--- Game Two ---
 
First Inning: UMass Lowell scored in the top of the first inning on an error to take a 1-0 lead.
 
Fourth Inning: Dean O'Neill got the Black Bears on the board as he singled home a pair of runs on a line drive to left field. Jeremiah Jenkins (BB) and Jake Marquez (1B) scored on the play.
 
Dylan McNary broke the game open with his fifth home run of the season, this one being a three-run shot to right field. Dean O'Neill (1B) and Matt McElwain (E5) scored on the play.
 
Jacob Jette's day came to an end in the fourth inning as he concluded his day throwing 3 and 2/3 innings, allowing 8 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits, 3 walks, 1 hit batter and striking out 4. Michael Simes can on in relief.
 
Connor Goodman caps off the 8-run inning for the Black Bears as he cleared the bases with a double to left center scoring Jake Rainess (1B), Quinn McDaniel (BB) and Jeremiah Jenkins (HBP).
 
Fifth Inning: Alex Luccini tripled home a run in the fifth inning for the River Hawks.
 
Gerry Siracusa singled home the third run of the game for UMass Lowell on a single to right field.
 
Zach Fortune came on in relief for the River Hawks to begin the fifth inning. Simes went 1/3 of an inning, allowing no runs on 1 hit.
 
Sixth Inning: Ryan Scott began the sixth inning on the mound for the Black Bears, bringing the end of the day for Caleb Leys. Leys went 5 innings, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits, 4 walks and striking out 6.
 
Scott was short lived out of the bullpen as he allowed back-to-back walks before giving way to Blaine Cockburn.
 
The River Hawks scored four runs in the sixth inning to make it a 1-run game.
 
Brendan Williams began the sixth inning on the mound for the River Hawks.  Fortune allowed no runs on no hits and striking out 1 in the sixth.
 
Seventh Inning: Luc Lavigueur came on to begin the seventh inning for the Black Bears. Cockburn pitched 1 inning, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits and 1 walk.
 
The River Hawks scored one run on a wild pitch to tie the contest up at 8-8.
 
 
Eighth Inning: Justin Baeyens began the eighth inning on the mound for the Black Bears. Lavigueur allowed 1 run on 1 hit, 2 walks and striking out 2.
 
Jeremiah Jenkins retook the lead for the Black Bears as he hit an RBI single to left field, scoring Jake Rainess (BB) on the play.
 
Justin Baeyens (1-1) picked up the win for the Black Bears as he pitched 2 complete innings, allowing no runs on 1 hit and striking out 6.
 
Brendan Williams (0-1) took the loss for UMass Lowell.
 
Maine (11-11, 5-0 AE) will stay at home for the series finale on Saturday, Apr. 1. The game is currently scheduled for a 4:00 P.M. start but is subject to change due to inclement weather.
