Orono, ME - The University of Maine men's basketball team defeated Brown on Sunday afternoon in Orono, 60-49.
Maine jumped out to an early 6-point lead as they scored eight of the first ten points in the contest with
Peter Filipovity scoring four of them.
The Black Bears started to pull away in the first half as they went on a 13-2 run in the middle portion of the first half as they took a 24-13 lead.
Following a
Kellen Tynes jumper at 2:48, the Black Bears took their largest lead of the game at 16-points. Brown scored two more in the final minute of the contest to make it a 14-point deficit at halftime, 37-23.
Jaden Clayton and
Quion Burns both scored a game-high 11 points in the first half. Burns was three-for-five from three-point range.
Brown began to chip away the Black Bear lead in the second half as they got the score back down to a two-point deficit with five minutes remaining in the contest before Maine went on an 11-2 run to end the game.
Clayton finished with 15 points on the night. Filipovity (13), Burns (11) and
Kellen Tynes (10) rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Black Bears in the winning performance.
Adam Cisse had three blocks and seven rebounds for the Black Bears to go with his four points. Filipovity finished with six rebounds and three steals.
Maine (6-4) matches their best start under
Chris Markwood in his second season at the helm of the Black Bears. Maine looks to continue their strong start to the season with a road matchup against Boston University on Wednesday, Dec. 6. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 P.M.
