Olivia Rockwood poured in a career-high 18 points to help guide Maine to a 60-54 victory over Louisiana Tech on day two of the Vibrant Thanksgiving Classic, hosted by Drake.
Rockwood registered a career-best six three-pointers in the win as the Black Bears improved to 4-2 on the season.
Caroline Bornemann added 13 points and seven rebounds while
Adrianna Smith featured her 19th career double-double and third of the season with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Maine finished the contest, which featured 13 lead changes and four ties, 22-of-55 from the floor (40.0) and hit nine triples in the win. The Black Bears won the rebounding battle, 35-30, for the fifth time in their first six games of the season.
Maine snatched its largest lead of the first half thanks to a 7-0 run with less than two minutes to play in the first quarter. Trailing by one, Bornemann jump started the sprint with a triple which was followed by a fast break layup from Simon who jumped a pass at the top of the key, swiping the ball and finishing on the opposite end. Smith's buck capped the run, which put Maine on top 17-11.
The Black Bears held a 19-14 edge entering the second quarter. La Tech responded with a 9-0 run to take a five point edge midway through the period.
Maine had the answer, ending the half on an 11-2 run. Rockwood and Bornemann hit back-to-back triples before another triple from Rockwood put Maine up by a pair. Simon's layup, again coming off a steal, gave the Black Bears a 30-26 lead at the half.
LA Tech rallied early in the second half to regain a one point cushion but Maine again responded. A 7-0 run was started by another Rockwood triple as the surge gave Maine a 40-33 lead with 5:36 left in the third quarter.
A 12-3 run from Louisiana Tech put it back ahead, 45-43, with 8:26 to play in regulation.
The lead would change four more times down the stretch.
Sera Hodgson's deep jumper gave Maine the lead for good with 3:27 on the clock.
Maine would end the game on a 7-2 run as Rockwood's triple, her sixth of the contest, gave Maine a four point lead. Smith's two free throws down the stretch put the game away with the Black Bears scoring the victory, 60-54.
Maine concludes the Vibrant Thanksgiving Classic on Sunday when it takes on hosts Drake at 3 p.m. ET.
