Lambert's OT Goal Lifts Maine in Quarterfinal Win

Black Bears advance to meet #2 UAlbany in America East Semifinal

Lowell, Mass. -- Poppy Lambert's overtime goal gave the No. 6 seeded University of Maine field hockey a 3-2 victory over No. 3 New Hampshire in the America East quarterfinals on Thursday, Nov. 2.

The Black Bears advance to meet the No. 2 seed UAlbany on Friday, Nov. 3 at 3 p.m.

Lambert's goal, which came off a designed corner play 8:07 into the extra frame, was the senior's sixth tally of the season and second of the game.

Maine goalkeeper Jayde Temby outdueled New Hampshires keeper, and the America East Goaltender of the Year, as the freshman made eight saves in the cage for the Black Bears.

The Black Bears began the scoring early as Lambert found the back of the cage just 6:57 into the quarterfinal contest. Working off a direct corner, Madisyn Hartley started the scoring play as she worked the ball to Eloise Penty who setup Lambert for the blast.

Kathelijne Knuttel tied the score at 1-1 after putting back a rebound, 14:01 into the game.

Kate Richardson put the Black Bears back on top as she dribbled down the field on a breakaway before burying her third goal of the season on the near post.

New Hampshire knotted things once again when Nicole Poulakis carried the ball into the zone before getting behind the defense and flipping a shot into the cage. Poulakis' goal eventually sent the game into overtime.

Maine's game-winner was setup off a penalty corner as the ball was settled at the top of the circle before Mallory Mackesy controlled the ball on the right side of the cage before sending it back to Lambert. Lambert's blast from the center of the circle beat the New Hampshire keeper, sending Maine to the semifinal round.
