Orono, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team dropped Friday's tight matchup to the number 12 ranked University of Connecticut by a score of 1 to 0.
The Black Bears generated 44 attempts on goal, but UConn netminder Tia Chan held her ground for a 21-save shutout.
The Huskies' lone goal came on a power play opportunity at the 4:02 mark left in the first period. The remainder of the game was dominated by Maine's many chances, but remained scoreless. The Black Bears killed off three of their four penalties successfully.
"The team has taken a step in the right direction, we just dominated that game. We need to stay out of the box; the pieces are coming together," said head coach
Molly Engstrom.
Maine's senior goaltender
Jorden Mattison stopped 12 of UConn's 13 shots on goal.
The two teams face off again Saturday, Nov. 11 at 2 pm at Alfond Arena.
